Each country has its own store. So people searching in local language will not see English description. Google however automatically translates description. Not sure if it is being used for search results too.
Let’s say you have a game with “Birds” in the title and you’re searching for the French equivalent “oiseaux”. I am guessing your game will show up better for searching in English than for searching in French. So how come it’s worth translating it?
Have you ever tried entering english words into your french translation? I wonder if it would affect search positively or negatively, for your french users?
As french user I will not search a game with word oiseaux. We will search for bird. Often translated titles are ridiculous. Translate only if relevant and focus on translating description.
If we translate the description of Angry Birds to French we won’t see “bird” in the description anymore. So my guess is the game will drop rankings when searching for “bird” because it doesn’t contain that word anymore. So why is it worth translating your apps to different languages? And why is Google recommending it?
Leave angry birds or subway surfers as most people around the word know them by english name and their icon but think about contacts backup app. users may search for keywords in local language specially the in countries like China Japan Korea and Arabic countries and if the country specific listing of our app contains that translated keyword it will rank for it. Of course it will not rank for contacts keyword in that country because it is not present in that country specific description.
Yes, that is exactly what I am thinking. I believe translating is only good for some apps. However, Google is advising to localize without mentioning the type of apps as a condition. Even my developer console is full of these optimization tips.
As you can see, the main name “Angry Birds” doesn’t get translated (keeping untouchable the strongest words) to the portuguese version of it (I have no clue which one would be).
Traslating app is useful, I got a boost of more than 40% after translating to other languages like portuguese (lots of people from Brasil), it’s worth trying.
