StartApp new SDK - main thread

Startapp updated my downloads. But i’m very disappointed with my revenue. It’s less 5 times than old startapp.:frowning:

Good morning/afternoon everyone,

Just wanted to update anyone that had any counting/stats issue in the past 24hrs - Everything is sorted and stats are showing in your dashboard.

We had a small issue/delay in showing the download numbers for the new SDK’s, which was quickly fixed.

If you still have issues, any issue at all, contact [email protected] for immediate support.

Have a great day,
Ariel.

this is 1 stupid review after i implemented the new SDK

i’m stupid on Sep 16, 2013 at 11:33 AM

Spyware on android Holy cow the things this just put on my phone. Not cool. Remove this.

oh come on, why there’s still this stupid review at all?

Hi Ariel,

I would like to ask you what would be the motivation for me to integrate/activate the slider then? Because if I understood this correctly, I earn money from those users who accept the EULA (and thereupon replace their browser starting page with StartApp’s one). This happens by running the function StartAppSearch.init(this).

Activating the search slider happens by running the function StartAppSearch.showSearchBox(StartActivity.this). This step is optional according to your pdf manual. And I have no benefits from it, right? So why should I do this anyway? (This sounds greedy, yeah, sorry. But I don’t see the point. Am I missing something?)

What are the PPD rates for combining all of the available StartApp SDK’s?

I’ve been sleeping a lot of days and I suddenly discovered that the new Google policy forces me to change the ads inside all of my apps in just 2 days…
LOL…
Well it’s a work that must be done, but when I came here to see if I found some good point to implement StartApp banners to substitute AdMob…

And I found this thread.

I want to say that StartApp is largely the best ad network I’ve found, and I’ve tested a lot of them. It was able to emerge from a crowd of dozens of other networks and stand still, clearly, as the best for many app developers like me. It has proven to be even better than Google’s own ad network.

In my very little garden I have been totally loyal to StartApp for months, but how can I proceed and suddenly have a drop in my (small) revenue like people are telling here? Halven or even decimate my revenue?? It’s an absolute nonsense. I would have some doubt if I found 15% less, but we are talking about much different numbers! If these are the numbers, I prefer keeping only the banners from AdMob, I will get the same amount of money thanks from the increased download rate.

Now I understand that Google policies go directly against the real core of the StartApp strategy, but… is it a good answer? How can StartApp have such short-vision? How can there be a still buggy SDK just 2-3 days before the deadline? How does StartApp plan to keep the leadership when developers get just a small portion of what got before?

StartApp, it’s time to risk, put money in it. You have to do it in these difficult periods. Developers are fast, if the rates are what it’s stated here, within 6 months you will have wasted all your successes and you will get less money than what you would get if you had risked a little bit and tried to keep your loyal developers, like me. Are you going to waste everything?

Now, I have one hour to decide whether to keep StartApp or try appwiz or tapcontext, and implement it on a dozen of apps. Sigh.

Users don’t work that way. If you remove an intrusive ad, they’ll just complain about the next one. I wouldn’t be surprised if people complained about interstitials and banners if that was all there is for advertising. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi Beppi,

Good to hear from you, and happy you discovered this now, and not in a week from today!

first, we appreciate the kind words, really. And I’m going to answer your questions and issues raised in a sec.

I wanted to say to all developers - Bear with us, guys. Really. We are literally all on the same boat and the co-dependency between us is huge. You can’t say we are not working hard to get you those solutions, and to prove that, we dished out 3 completely new SDK’s in a matter of 3 weeks. That is no easy task, which kept us working 24 hours a day.

Working under such crazy time restraints, it is common to have bugs. And although very un-characteristic to us, we had a few (mainly with the Post call SDK). Those were quickly resolved and only small things remain. New SDK’s are out in the portal and are ready to use. We are operating a 24 hour support services, and we need your help to track down those final bugs. Everyone was super helpful during the past couple of days.

We’ve been with you for the past 2.5 years, paying top dollars, introducing innovative and new ad units and payment models, which allowed you guys to keep developing. Now that the boat is rocking, we need you to be patient and be a part in solving all these issues together.

That was my little “speech” here.

Now, back to you Beppi - The payouts and revenue. I’m seeing that close to 40% of your revenue with us is from our InApp ads, which is great! this means two things - First, with the new SDK, there are a few more ad units, allowing you to get even more impressions = more revenue. Second, with our complete suite of SDK’s you will get a 25% PPD bonus, which brings you to the top possible PPD you can earn with us.

Your PPD earnings will be lower, yes. But they will not be THAT far off from what you make today. We removed the new/returning breakdown, leaving this a flat fee for US/non US. And you will agree with me that no other network out there, which pays PPD, can offer you a reliable and trust worth partner as us. We never surprise you with cutbacks in revenue, or sudden drops of downloads that disappear, we don’t have “fine print” attached to our payments and we pay on time. All those are so valuable and are a staple to us.

So, final words, pick up the new SDK, test it out and see that the revenue will still be good. Also, since you can run this with Admob, no reason to just run with them, right?

Thanks Beppi, you have my email if anything comes up.

Ariel.

I totaly agree! I’m using StartApp since January 2012 and i must admit that i was very satisfied and made good money with them. For me, now, after having tested the new sdk and saw rates, StartApp is dead. Maybe StartApp is like the Phoenix and will come to birth again from its ashes… will see. I don’t want to run the new SDK for now, too risky for just few bucks… we don’t even know if the slide bar is compatible with the new policy (StartApp think they are, but only the big Google alias God decides). I can’t take such a risk. I’ve been loyal yes… but… only to the Rates.

Now my own choice is clear: Admob banners and intersticials + InApp Billing…

Thanks Ariel for the answer.
What do you mean by “since you can run this with Admob”? I thought that implementing banners would have substituted Admob banners, what am I missing or misunderstanding?
thank you

That’s right ariel, StartApp always paid me at time, no problems with numbers… they are reliable and Ariel always nice.
3 weeks to adapt an economic model is short… too short. I will probably run again startapp but not now, i’m waiting for the end of the storm

Ariel! You are everywhere (mails, forums) you wet your shirt for StartApp! did you sleep these last weeks?

Hi Beppi,

We have several ad types, and there are many places in your app you can place ads. Interstitials, Exit/Entry, “more apps” button on top of a small banner. More over, you can rotate between banners.

But what I meant was you can run with our out-of-app units alongside Admob.

Thanks,
Ariel.

Hi, guys

Just checked out Mobario’s SDK since they’ve been spamming this forum 5x per day. Anybody who thinks this SDK is compliant with new Google policy is completely crazy. It breaks AT LEAST two rules in the new policy, firstly by showing interstitials outside of the app (and in a very spammy way), and secondly by interfering with other apps by overlaying ads over other apps including Google Play’s own app each time you install/uninstall.

This company is dangerous and I predict they will get into big trouble for telling developers their SDK is Google-play compliant.

PingJam and Startapp’s post-call managers are also NOT compliant guys. Don’t listen to these ad networks who are lying to you, when Google bans you they won’t be able to help at all.

can Ariel explain this problem?

Why the dashboard is not updated today?

i found a little bug

startAppAd.isReady() always returns false even if the ad is loaded. correct me if im wrong

Hi Ariel,

I would like to repeat my question.

Hello everyone. Has anybody updated information about the statistics DOWNLOADS (currently impression statistics refreshed) ?

Is it possible that Post-Call manager is not compatible with Android 4.3?

Hi felix,

Sorry for the late reply on this one.

Basically, you’re right, you don’t have to call the in-app service. The reason for this is to mainly allow flexibility to the developers, given this is a new product. As always, with PPD, the risk is on our end, and we calculated the PPD’s assuming this is used.

Hope this helps.

Ariel.

Hi Vytenis,

The project cannot be compiled with Android 4.3, only with older versions.
However, it will run on Android 4.3.
