Google play bad rating after 10th december

They do. Also they are rating low apps they got bored with long ago and forgotten to uninstall.

Absolutely the same happened to me. Still, glad to see I am not the only one :frowning: !

Rate system is bugged. Myself Ive noticed that my rate sometimes goes for prev installed app and not current. I doubt google will admit it. Nothing new really.

Just face it: 4.0 is the new 4.4.

Yeah, guess so :frowning:

I have got this reply from Google play support yesterday, I’m not sure if this reply means they are going to fix this issue soon or not..

Hi,

Thanks for contacting Google Play Developer support.

We understand that you noticed a drop in your app rating due to the “quick suggestions” box.

We do apologize for any inconvenience caused due to this.

We really appreciate your thoughtful feedback on improving this feature, and we’ll be sure to take your thoughts into consideration as we work to improve Google Play.

Kind Regards,
Google Play Developer Support

looking at recent data it seems that ratings stabilized on new level (no fall for last 3 days at least). has anyone noticed this as well?

Yes, newer apps have stabilized. Older apps will slowly fall for a long time I guess.

Can you explain why so?

Another possible reason for a decline in ratings:

Awful app-review trend among Turkish users: This is why your app gets so many one star reviews!

Summary: Some users know that one star reviews are more visible, and therefore rate one star, so that more people read their comment. Narcissism!

It’s just math. It takes longer to bring down old rating averages which have enjoyed the old vote distribution for a long time.

This thread is mostly about 1-star ratings without any comments.

I’m facing the same issue, and getting worse every day. Here’s a 17 month cumulative ratings graph. 1500 ratings, straight 4.4 rating for 16 months, And down to 4.19 in just 1 month. And it seems like the rating drop will continue for a long time. Why should people care about making a good application anymore?

I’ve sent Google the following message, I hope they fix it soon, or many developers will stop caring about creating high quality apps, or using non-intrusive advertisements, as they’ll get downvoted anyway.

The new “Quick Rating” widget in Play Store application is misleading users into giving low ratings, as they think they are not actually rating the application, but only hinting Play Store about app suggestions they would like to receive. This has caused Bricknoid to fall from 4.4 rating to 4.19 since December 9, 2013, and it’s still dropping fast. The application kept its 4.4 rating since it has been released 18 months ago, but got hit bad after December the 9th.

A lot of developers are facing this issue at the moment; getting unfair 1 star ratings, losing their revenues, and getting highly disappointed, as I am.

Here’s a link that describes the issue in more detail.
Multiple Developers Seeing Influx Of Unexplained 1-Star Ratings Since Launch Of Play Store’s New ‘Quick Rating’ Widget

Please do something about this. I’m losing revenue, deeply discouraged to release any new applications, and many developers feel like me.

Regards

update: I got a semi generic reply the next day. Although it’s nice to hear back from them in under 12 hours, the content of their message seems to be a mix of “We don’t give a flying duck” and “We know the best, and you do not”.

Here’s the full reply;

Hi Tarik,

Thanks for contacting Google Play Developer Support.

We’ve recently updated the Google Play app on user devices (smartphones, tablets and TVs) to give users additional opportunities to provide feedback on apps they’ve installed, which will drive more user ratings. While the change does not prompt for user comments (and therefore you may see an increase in the number of ratings without a comment), this surge in ratings should still reflect the quality of your app to users.

If you believe you have received fraudulent or spam ratings for you app(s), please let us know, and our team will be happy to investigate further.

Thank you,

Play Developer Operations

Yep it’s pretty bad and some of the reviews make 0 sense

My app’s rating has regained more than half of the fall it took after December 10:th and the rating is trending upwards. Not sure what’s going on.

My ratings are declining still… My most popular app has gone from 4.5 to 4.2. I don’t know what to do. I’ve always asked the users to vote, when hey have a good result in the game, don’t know what else to do.

I’m having the same issue. My app’s rating has gone down from 4.85 to 4.45 :’(

We can’t just f*kin sit and watch… We need to do something

I received the same exact reply:

My app is rather new so this affects my rates to the extreme.
Also my app is of unique type , one that you don’t need recommendations based on it so people rate it low because even when they like it . This feature is a real disaster.

I encountered the same issue - some 12-13yolds which have no idea how to use the app or how the app works rate it badly - I guess there is nothing that we can really do about it… :frowning:
