Strange app behaviour

I was browsing through the top app charts today when I came accross this:

c5c0c414f1cd44450aac5226478ed04e.jpg

This application as of 6/10/2014 has 10,000 - 50,000 installs and 733 ratings. How can such an app be at the top 9 in the whole Play Store beating out Clash of Clans and all of the other huge companies?

This app is also #1 in the strategy category.

Would this developer just pay for a crazy load of installs for a few days to achieve this? or maybe even bots? let me know what you think

Here’s a link to the app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sincetimes.totalwar.google

It’s probably within the first 30 days of release?

I am not sure, how can we find out?

wow… nice IAP… up to more than 200$…

It’s new: Empire and civilization - Google Play Store Top Apps | App Annie - new apps have some privileges. And the owner is probably throwing money at advertisement like crazy.

Wow I wonder how much it costs

Yes, that would be interesting to know

I don’t think it’s strange. Each country has it’s own store, so if this game got 10k downloads from one single country in the past few days compared to 5k downloads from a single country for Clash of Clans, the game in subject will be ranked higher in that country. That doesn’t mean it ranks better in all the countries.
