Yeah. playing around with it I was able to set the background of my adView to one of my house ad banners and the onClick to get it to link to the google play page for one of my apps.
But to make it more elegant and easy to implement into each activity that showed ads it would take writing a custom wrapper.
I agree it would be cool if admob did that out of the box.
I think the easiest way to do this “offline house ads” functionality would be using the event handler @fiveHellions mentioned.
Just create a custom view (which you can re-use in other projects) that automatically sets its size to 320x50 (or whatever banner size you want). Then add both the AdMob AdView, and your custom banner view to your app’s XML layout. Set the AdMob banner to Visibility.GONE, so the only thing visible at startup is your custom banner. Then you only need to add two events:
AdView.onReceivedAd - Hide custom banner, set AdMob to visible
AdView.onFailedToRecieveAd - Hide AdMob, set custom banner to visible
If you’re able to reuse the custom banner in other projects, this should be fairly easy to implement after you’ve done it the first time.
