App with news about someone else's product - legal?

Let’s use Dell as an example. Would it be legal for me to make an app that updates the user on new products, upgrades and plans by the Dell company? I can’t see why it’s any different from a more general news app or wikipedia, but since developers have gotten into trouble for making an app about GTA, I want to be careful.

And if this concept is legal…

[/li][li] Would it be legal to use the Dell logo anywhere else in your app?
[/li][li] Would it be legal to mention their computer lines/names/sub-brands in your app?
[/li][li] Would it still be legal to make a profit with such an app through ads (but the app is free)?
[/li][/ul]

I’d appreciate if anyone would share their knowledge about this!

I’d say it is very risky. Here is what I think about it:

  1. No, you can’t use their logo in your logo - that I am absolutely sure about
  2. No, you can’t use their logo anywhere else - same as #1
  3. Yes, I guess you could do it
  4. Yeah, if you don’t do 1 & 2

I agree. But I would advise you against the idea, it is risky of copyright infringement.

Thank you. I think I’ll drop the idea then. I assume news apps probably have (bought) legal privileges when it comes to things like this.
