Does Android Have The Capability Of Taking Over iOS?

The war between mobile app giants Android and iOS is quite similar to the one witnessed between Windows and Mac for computer users in the 1990s. With the rapid growth witnessed by Android smart devices in the last five-and-a-half years, it is time for Apple to rekindle its fire of bringing innovative apps in the market. Interestingly, among the devices themselves, Tablet sales are witnessing higher numbers as compared to smartphones. This is one area where the iPad certainly holds an edge over the Samsung Android devices, with as share of 46.4% in the global tablet market, but Android is certainly close on its heels as Apple has witnessed a loss in market share for the third consecutive quarter.

So, what does the world of mobile apps hold for the future?

Will Android continue its dominance in the global market? Though it is hard to directly answer that question, there exist several figures at present which certainly tilt the balance in favor of Android. During Q1 2013, Android is being used on 59.5% of the smart devices being shipped, while iOS is only on 19.3% and Microsoft on 18.1%. The gap between Android, iOS and Windows mobile Operating Systems can clearly be seen from the before mentioned data. For Q4 2012, as per data released by the IDC, 70.1% of shipments are credited to Android smartphones, while 21% to iOS and 8.9% to others. In addition, Tablets have witnessed a phenomenal growth of 106.1% YOY, with shipments reaching 41.9 million units.

A differential picture of growth can be seen across the various world mobile markets over the past 12 months. In the UK, Blackberry OS continues to struggle, having dropped from 2nd to 3rd position. Android has witnessed the greatest rise, while Nokia has suffered the greatest loss. However, Apple is at the top in this market. Similarly, in the US market, while iOS has witnessed a rise of 8% in market share, Android has remained level and Blackberry OS has fallen by 2% from the previous year. Clearly, the battle between Android and iOS is neck-and-neck, with not much to choose between the two. Apart from countries such as India, Australia, UK and Russia, Android devices have acquired a significant share of the market in others, as can be seen from the chart below.Surprisingly, more than 90% of the South Korean market is held by Android.
It is a known fact that Android smartphones are available in a much wider price range in comparison to iOS. There are many more options to choose from, which makes iOS that much more exclusive. More number of Android smart devices are being purchased across the world, as a result.

Android vs iOS Development: Fight!

Developers who create the iOS platform are mostly comprised of those working on CSS, Java and HTML5. They give serious amount of attention to the finish of a product. In contrast, Android developers largely consist of coders, who do not give as much emphasis to the finish, but instead focus more on usability. The Android users want functionality and are more tech-oriented, whereas Apple users want fun and are fashion-conscious.

One area where Apple has a serious advantage is in the gaming zone, where Android loses out due to fragmentation. Due to this reason, most developers choose the iOS and since gaming occupies a significant position in the list of tasks performed through smart devices, Android makers needs to look at this aspect with greater attention. As far as the superiority of design goes, getting it up to the level of iOS seems to be a question of time. In such a scenario, with Android and iOS right at the top, other mobile app developers such as Blackberry have a long way to go before being able to compete at the same level. But at the moment, Android may have a slight advantage over iOS.

Note: This post is not to market my blog it is just knowledge sharing

Well its very hard to say anything about it because both have many great features and have their own marketplace but Android is more popular than IOS these days due to its great application which can download easily.

I think no… Both have great features.
