i have started using adincube(with admob). It is 2.5x-3.0x better than startapp.

in my experience, you would get a better result with admob.
Avoiding admob is something like avoiding necessary protein from your daily diet which will make you week over the period of time leading to revenue death finally.
You should use Facebook Audience network(very high Ecpm, low fill rate) and Admob for back fill. That will give you huge revenue!!!
