I think it just depends on your implementation and maybe it also has something todo with the precaching thing. As I undestood, they are loading the actual banner and another one too.

I had an average eCPM of 1.6$ with Admob, so yes for sure.
Taking the lowest value of 7$ from Appodeal, it would be over for times as much as before
Or from the other point of view, not switching to Appodeal makes you lose big money
