Some DMCA takedowns just for US?

I had my third takedown last week and noticed it’s only disabled for US distribution. I also had my fourth takedown today (all of Google Play), but the app was related to the third app (same requester) .

Nonetheless, I unpublished that third app just in case (and actually a related fifth app just in case). I’m obviously lucky to have my account still.

After reviewing some other apps in the takedown requests I was emailed I noticed some were disabled per US, some totally, and some not at all.

Just thought I’d share.

What kind of apps were they? Can you tell us which brand / copyright they said you were using?

I’d rather not say, but it was questionably being used as fair use, as well as other apps that were banned. The IP is owned by a company in the US if that’s what you were wondering.

I’d try appealing but Google doesn’t reply anyways. In fact, there’s tons of apps that copy mine and they don’t get banned. But I digress. This thread was to just point out the US suspension really.

hey Dan,

any awareness about apps being taken down in non-us countries. like Australia?

Honestly, no idea. I doubt it. DMCA = US law.

So either it’ll be banned in just US or all countries.

How is that determined?

They probably flip a coin.
